The Green energy challenge!

A team comprising of past Student Representative Council members (SRC) and the Starzec energy company, a fast-uprising Ghanaian company aimed at the reduction of carbon blueprints and emissions in the country organized the green energy challenge. The challenge tasked students to create innovative solutions and ideas to reduce the carbon emissions in the Knust community and its environs. The event’s maiden inauguration was held in the Kwame Nkrumah Museum building on the Kwame Nkrumah university of Science and Technology campus in Kumasi.

As part of the vision of the Materials Innovation Hub, to equip its students with problem solving skills, meaningful connections, and innovative thinking to solutions in a world of rapidly developing technological advancements and edge-cutting innovations, members were encouraged to form groups and apply for the challenge. After applying, six out of the ten teams that applied from MiH successfully entered the challenge and advanced to further stages in the competition. The “Hydrogen Fuel Cell” ,"Microbial fuel cell" and “Biogas Technology” are some of the solutions entered in the competition by teams representing the Hub.
